LIGHT UP OUR WORLD

A Community Festival to Support Arts and Culture

Saturday, November 19, 2016

Daly City’s City Hall, 333 90th Street, Daly City, CA 94015

Daly City, CA – On the evening of Saturday, November 19, 2016, residents are invited to the City’s first cultural arts festival hosted by the Daly City Arts and Culture Commission. To celebrate the arts, 1,000 free LED votive candles will be given out to attendees to participate in a public art performance. Collectively, all participants will gather together into the shape of a heart, symbolizing a love for the arts. The evening will also be filled with music, dance, art displays, photo booth, and many other hands-on art activities and performances from 5:00 – 9:30 pm. And street-food lovers will be able to enjoy local food trucks (fees apply). The candle light public art performance begins at 6:00 pm. Admission and all activities are FREE.

LIGHT symbolizes enlightenment, creativity, joy, hope, and unity – which inspires the artist in all of us. Enjoy an evening of creativity that will light up our lives: hear music that gets us to our feet, take home your favorite fun poses from the SNAP FIESTA Photo Booth, see art that will delight our hearts, and make lanterns to take home and light up our world!

1.15–2.30 PM LUNCH SESSIONS

DEVELOPING A MULTICULTURAL DESIGN PRACTICE

Design is neither a neutral nor objective force. It always reflects the values and intent of those who wield it. We can see this when products and services don’t align with the needs and values of the communities they impact. As companies scale to build products that engage communities globally, it is important the solutions they create are culturally intelligent. They should resonate with the localized values and experiences of the communities they serve. How do we develop cross-cultural design practices that empower individuals and communities to mobilize cultural knowledge? Join Black-led design collective Design to Divest and Salesforce for an interactive discussion on expanding the collective imagination of design as a discipline to create equitable products, services, and institutions.
