This A319 of the German Air Force is seen taxing back to parking at RAF Brize Norton after conducting an Open skies mission.
The Open Skies treaty was first signed on March 24, 1992 and permits each member state-party to conduct short-notice, unarmed, reconnaissance flights over the others' entire territories. The purpose is to collect data on military forces and activities. Observation aircraft used to fly the missions are equipped with sensors that enable the identification of any significant military equipment, such as artillery, fighter aircraft and armoured combat vehicles.
