El Vieux Lyon es el barrio medieval y renacentista de Lyon. Se encuentra en la ribera del Saona, a los pies de la colina Fourvière. Éste es uno de los barrios más extensos del perÃodo medieval y renacentista (junto con Venecia), que sigue intacto hoy en dÃa.
El Vieux Lyon fue inscrito en la lista de Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad por la Unesco en 1998.
La arquitectura del Vieux Lyon varió con el Renacimiento, debido a los florentinos que llegaron a la corte francesa acompañando a Catalina de Médicis, cuando se casó con el segundo hijo del rey de Francia Francisco I. Con esta una boda real entre Italia y Francia, el Vieux Lyon heredó una arquitectura de patios interiores como la que se encuentran en los palacios de Florencia.
Se observa un verdadero sabor meridional e italiano que se desprende en sus estrechas calles llenas de coloridas fachadas, tiendas de artesanÃa, bouchons lioneses...
Afortunadamente el Vieux Lyon se escapó de muchos proyectos que tuvieron alteraciones destructivas, sobre todo en siglo XIX, época en la que muchos edificios fueron destruidos, especialmente para la construcción de la estación de Saint-Paul.
The Vieux Lyon is the medieval and Renaissance quarter of Lyon. It is located on the banks of the Saone, at the foot of the Fourvière hill. This is one of the largest neighborhoods from the medieval and renaissance period (along with Venice), which is still intact today.
The Vieux Lyon was inscribed on the list of Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 1998.
The architecture of the Vieux Lyon varied with the Renaissance, due to the Florentines who arrived at the French court accompanying Catherine de Medici, when she married the second son of the King of France Francisco I.
