Los promaucaes decidieron dar batalla y se enfrentaron por tres días con los incas. Este suceso se conoce como Batalla del Maule. El enfrentamiento produjo gran cantidad de muertos en ambos bandos, sin que ninguno de los ejércitos resultara vencedor. Al cuarto día decidieron no enfrentarse. Los promaucaes se retiraron del campo de batalla cantando victoria. Los incas habrían evaluado perseguirlos para continuar con la batalla o asegurar lo que ya había sido conquistado. Finalmente decidieron no tratar de continuar la conquista, sino fortalecer sus posiciones y administrar los territorios ya conquistados al norte, donde los nuevos pueblos vasallos aceptaron de buen grado el dominio y obtuvieron ventajas de él.
A ruka or ruca is a traditional Mapuche house type. Rukas were originally round with a conical roof. Rucas are typically built communally. Rukas traditionally lack windows and are made up a single open space in the interior. The interior of the rukas are organized around a central fireplace.
Travellers in the first half of the 20th century compared the housing conditions of rukas favourably to the tenements of Santiago and the countryside cottages of non-Mapuche Chilean farmers

O edifício da estação Nova de Coimbra foi construído entre 1925 e 1931, para rematar o final do ramal ferroviário entre esta e a Estação Velha, terminado em 1884. No ano de 1923 foi apresentado o projecto do edifício, da autoria dos arquitectos Cotinelli Telmo e Luís Cunha.
É um exemplar da arquitectura do ferro de gosto classicizante e dimensões monumentais. A fachada principal é marcada pelo corpo central em pedra, onde se abrem três portas simétricas de acesso à gare, ladeadas por colunelos e frontões imponentes, sendo o remate - um frontão elaborado que engloba um grande relógio - o elemento mais marcante do conjunto.
Este corpo central é ladeado por dois outros semicirculares e facetados, rasgados por janelões em arco de volta perfeita, aos quais se adossam, de cada lado, dois corpos rectangulares marcados por pilastras que dividem estreitos panos murários onde se abrem janelas rectangulares, no piso térreo, e quadrangulares, no piso superior. Os corpos laterais acompanham o interior da gare.
No interior, o átrio de acesso à gare possui pormenores decorativos interessantes, nomeadamente o elemento em gesso colocado sobre a porta central, a cobertura em vidro e ferro, formando motivos geométricos, e as molduras das portas. A cobertura das plataformas da gare é feita por alpendres suportados por colunelos, estruturas de ferro típicas da arquitectura deste tipo de serviços.
A obra da Estação Nova constitui também um interessante testemunho do percurso do arquiteto Cotinelli Telmo, que desempenhou importante papel na renovação da linguagem arquitetónica em Portugal nos anos 20 e 30 do século XX, tendo sido responsável pela modernização da arquitectura ferroviária no início da sua carreira.
A Estação Ferroviária de Coimbra A (Estação Nova) foi classificada como Monumento de Interesse Público, de acordo com a Portaria nº 611/2013.

just a small sample of the warnings i got from various friends about my first time snowboarding. boy they weren't kidding. i cannnot count the number of times i fell and there were certainly some close moments when i fell and could have broken some bones before i sort of figured out a more safer way to fall, still painful, but at least no broken bones. i can honestly say the first time snowboarding was partly frustrating since the learning curve is quite high. i did feel that i was sort of making strides though and began to have a lot of fun once i figured out some things. obviously i still have a long way to improve before i can confidently snowboard... but its a start.
some of the other helpful comments i heard throughout the day...
after a particularly nasty wipeout: "its all part of the learning experience" ~ but why did it have to hurt so much! hahaha...
"don't look down, look straight ahead..." ~ wish i heard that in the beginning!
"watch out for that tree!" ~ oh wait, that's from george of the jungle!
