and family over the Holidays,
I wish you all a Happy and prosperous New Year :-)

Das Jahr ist klein und liegt noch in der Wiege.
Der Weihnachtsmann ging heim in seinen Wald.
Doch riecht es noch nach Krapfen auf der Stiege.
Das Jahr ist klein und liegt noch in der Wiege.
Man steht am Fenster und wird langsam alt.
Die Amseln frieren.
Und die Krähen darben.
Und auch der Mensch hat seine liebe Not.
Die leeren Felder sehnen sich nach Garben.
Die Welt ist schwarz und weiß und ohne Farben.
Und wär so gerne gelb und blau und rot.
Umringt von Kindern wie der Rattenfänger,
tanzt auf dem Eise stolz der Januar.
Der Bussard zieht die Kreise eng und enger.
Es heißt, die Tage würden wieder länger.
Man merkt es nicht. Und es ist trotzdem wahr.
Die Wolken bringen Schnee aus fremden Ländern.
Und niemand hält sie auf und fordert Zoll.
Silvester hörte man’s auf allen Sendern,
dass sich auch unterm Himmel manches ändern
und, außer uns, viel besser werden soll.
Das Jahr ist klein und liegt noch in der Wiege.
Und ist doch hunderttausend Jahre alt.
Es träumt von Frieden. Oder träumt’s vom Kriege?

Und stirbt in einem Jahr. Und das ist bald.

Einen ganz herzlichen Dank an euch allen für eure wunderbare Inspiration, für die treue Unterstützung und für eure lieben Kommentare, die mich immer sehr erfreuen.
Auch wenn ich aus zeitlichen Gründen nicht immer dazu gekommen bin, auf all eure Faves und Anmerkungen zu antworten, so danke ich euch jetzt von ganzem Herzen.
Some of my previous images for New Year have been a bit gloomy, so lets start this year off with a bit of optimism and a burst of sunlight.
The image needs a bit of explaining. It was taken on the day of a truly spectacular temperature inversion that completely covered the whole of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and way beyond. The sea of cloud was thick and even, and all the remained above the cloud layer was the tops of the very highest hills. This image was taken in the woods on the west side of Worcestershire Beacon in the Malvern Hills and was close to the top of the layer of fog, just at the point where the sun's rays could penetrate and send sunbeams through the trees. It was a truly magical day!
*Süntelbuche im Herbst*
Last Wednesday I drove to the northern Eifel to catch a few autumn moods. Fortunately, the over 200 year old dwarf beech tree on a Celtic burial mound near Blankenheim still had a few autumn-colored leaves ... and occasionally the sun came out.
Letzte Mittwoch fuhr ich in die Nordeifel, um ein paar herbstliche Stimmungen einzufangen. Die über 200 Jahre alte Süntelbuche auf einem keltischen Grabhügel bei Blankenheim hatte zum Glück noch ein paar herbstlich gefärbte Blätter...und gelegentlich zeigte sich auch die Sonne.
