Through the palm trees and down the riverbank, we could see the muddy river over branches and stones. Buddhist monks crossing the river to Luang temple in Pakse, fisherman wading with nets and boats streaming along the swirling river. Here the Xe Don river flows into the mighty Mekong river. One of the world’s major rivers is estimated 4,909 km length. The brown color doens't mean the water is dirty but indicates the destructive land use systems on its watersheds. Women washed clothes along the banks. Boys swim and splash. The biodiversity of the Mekong is one of the richest in the world. More than 1200 species of fish have been identified and there could be possibly as many as 1700. Fishing is a very important part of the economic activities in this area and a vital source of protein in the local diet. Even the rare species of freshwater dolphin, the Irrawaddy dolphin can be seen at the Lower Mekong. You will develop a sense of serenity being absorbed by the physical pull of the river and its surrounding lush green landscape.

Photo taken in Pakse - Loas. It's quiet town located between the two lazy rivers, the Mekong and Xe Don river. Life flows slowly here, just like this muddy river. The people are gentle and unassuming. The buddhist monks crossing the river on their way the monastery Wat Luang. Viewing the river you will be soaked up by the slow paced atmosphere. A few miles further this Xe Don river flows into the mighty Mekong.

Bigger is better

I made a promise last July that I would upload another picture of this mind-twisting stairwell (seen in Charlestown, MA). Here I am four months later proving that I'm a man of my word. This flattened perspective sparked an interest in urban abstracts this past summer... it still tops the list as one of my favorites from Boston. A huge thanks to Irisa for the crop suggestion!

Large Rack of Ribs, Please!!!

Located in the heart of Harlem, there is no finer restaurant than Sylvia's. It is known for the famous and not so famous folks that believe the soul food offered here is second to none. We had heard of this place so a group of us stopped in for lunch. I had the ribs, they were to die for and I will surely taste them again on the next trip to NY

I captured this amazing moment when the Sun was painting the London Centre Point in Gold...

=========================================================================

Centre Point is a substantial concrete and glass office building in central London, England, occupying 101-103 New Oxford Street, WC1, close to St Giles' Circus and almost directly above Tottenham Court Road tube station. The site was once occupied by a gallows.[1] The building was designed by Richard Seifert with engineers Pell Frischmann and was constructed by Wimpey Construction from 1963 to 1966. It is 117 m (385 ft) high, has 32 floors and 27,180 m2 (292,563 sq ft) of floor space and is the joint 27th tallest building in London. It was one of the first skyscrapers in London. It is a grade II listed building.

Wound through narrow lanes and small villages, after a hike down a canyon, we were rewarded with this beautiful site. There are three water falls in Gitgit Village which are offering the amazing panorama and geographically: "Gigit waterfall" is the biggest one, further upstream there is another one called "Gitgit Cascade" and this is the smallest one called "Twin Gitgit". Beautiful waterfalls from height hill which is encircled by fertile rain forest plantation and emerald pool. Twin Gigit waterfalls situated in the jungle of forest, fresh atmosphere with beautiful panorama presenting on the way to this waterfall. It produce the clear water with some time the local children play around and having bath. It is located in Gitgit countryside, Singaraja regency, North of Bali.

To the ancient Greeks, Mount Etna was the realm of Vulcan, god of fire, and the home of the one-eyed monster known as the Cyclops. At approximately 3350 meters, it is Europe's highest active volcano. The Mount Etna height of its summit changes with each eruption, and over the centuries a few lava flows have reached the coast. Over 1200 square meters of Etna's surface is covered with solidified lava.

Stuff about the Cleaven Dyke...

Cursus monuments. The largest in Scotland is the Cleaven Dyke, Perthshire. This is an unusual cross between a bank barrow and a cursus, with a 9m wide bank running midway between two ditches, which are 50m apart. The Dyke runs for over 2km, and was constructed in the late 5th or early 4th millenium cal BC. It is considered to represent some 60-80,000 hours of labour. The Dyke itself however is unlikley to have been constructed in one go.

At the NW end it appears that an oval burial mound was built first. This was partly covered by a long barrow and this in turn had the Dyke added to its SE end. The Dyke is not even in its construction, and has about 34 segments. This may indicate that it was constructed over some period of time. One of the excavators of the Dyke, comments that 'the apparent large scale of the effort necessary to construct the Cleaven Dyke may be an illusion; it and other cursus monuments may have been built over a long time period in relatively short segments... In some societies coming together over a long period to repeat some ritual activity (in this case the construction of a segment of the Dyke) may be more important than the monument eventually produced by many year's labour').

Have a great day everyone!!!! :)

After a long 500 mile train ride southeast from Krakow you have all made it to the next destination.

I welcome you all to the small town of Sinaih, Romania a place that will make everyone wish they were there....

Sinaih is a mountain resort town in the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania along the Peles river. The city is just 44 km from Brasov which is the second biggest city after the capitol Bucharest of course.

This is Peleş Castle which was built between the years 1875-1914 and is in fact Laurie and I's fafourite Castle in Europe. Yes you read that right, this Neo-Renaissance Castle is exquisite, in the perfect sense of the word. The Peles Castle was built with stone, wood and brick and the interior has 170 rooms 30 bathrooms! the cost was estimated to be 16,000,000 gold Romanian lei (approx. $US 120 million today).

The woodwork and collections they have inside are unbelievable. Only the best/most rare and exotic woods, fabrics and marbles where used in the building. For example two different types of woods they used were golden lime-tree and nut tree wood.

If you're a lover of woodwork this is an architectural jem you cannot miss in your life time. I wish I was able to take photos inside, but unfortunately I was not allowed and they even took our cameras. Sadface.

Oh well, at least I saw it with my eyes while my jaw was hitting the floor in every room. Maybe one day you will all visit and explore the castle yourselves.

In the meantime please enjoy these views of the Castle and it's surroundings in the breathtaking Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania....

++++ On this day: November 11th, please join me in remembering all the fallen soldiers. 2 years ago I was standing in The Canadian Cemetery in Bény-sur-Mer in Normandie and I will never forget that moment and the fallen who fought for our freedom. Thank you so much!

Been working days this week so not as much time for Flickr, by Friday I should be caught with everyone streams. Have a great week my peeps! =D +++++

"The Rhône Glacier (German: Rhonegletscher/ Valais German: "Rottengletscher") is a glacier in the Swiss Alps and the source of the river Rhône and one of the primary contributors to Lake Geneva in the far eastern end of the Swiss canton of Valais. Because the Glacier is located close to the Furka Pass road it is easily accessible.

Light, especially sunlight, has such a potent effect on your body's internal clock, or circadian rhythms, that you can use it to reset your sleep cycle, says Phyllis C. Zee, MD, PhD, director of the Sleep Disorders Center at Northwestern University.

"If you tend to be a night owl who can't get to sleep until 1 a.m., you may have delayed circadian rhythms. To shift to an earlier schedule -- and make it easier to get to bed and get up on time -- soak up as much sunlight as possible between 6 and 8 a.m." Force yourself to wake up early and sit in a sunny room or take a post-sunrise walk. When it's warm, try eating breakfast outdoors. Basking in early-morning rays prompts your body to suppress production of melatonin -- the sleep hormone -- during the day and release it earlier in the evening, so falling asleep isn't such a struggle.

Well I guess I start doing it :) coz frankly when I am out of city I always wake up early to catch sunrise but when I return to city :P I become a owl again :( :P I guess tr is many owl friends out tr isn't !

This was another SOOC shot pretty much the wow-est moment of sunrise, I do have lot of other shots which I tried planning and shooting will post them one at a time every morning :)

Its magical how even the boring mobile towers also merge with the landscape which looks as if taken from a Arabian Nights series, the old and new coexist and morning painter manages to paint it in such a way that you don't realize the difference and just get immersed in the morning glow :)

Good morning, Have a great Week ahead friends :)

Refresh yourself at the Landes National Park Region a peaceful and natural retreat. The Landes are a flat sandy low land area at the southwest corner of Aquitaine region featuring the largest European pine forest. An area of over 300 sq km - the park is somewhere to spread your wings and to get back in touch with nature. This hidden garden is the privileged territory to approach the soul of Aquitaine - France. Visitors here invariably leave with a renewed sense of peace and vitality. For active days there are lakes for boating, swimming, picnic or just observing the wildlife, and several centers for horse-riding, canoing and cycle trails. The Landes forest, also known as the moors of Gascony.

Photo taken at the Landes National Park Region of South Western of France. A misty morning at the largest European pine forest. A lovely Autumn forest with lush brown colored ferns, a majority of them grow in shade. New growth is sometimes reddish or purple, but turns green with age, yellow in autumn, and brown in winter.

Pushkar (पुष्कर) in Rajasthan is one of the oldest cities of India. The date of its actual origin is not known, but legend associates Lord Brahma with its creation. It is mentioned that Brahma performed penance here for 60,000 years to have glimpse of Radha Krishna. Pushkar boasts of temples, though not many can be considered very old since many were destroyed by Aurangzeb, a Mogul ruler and subsequently rebuilt. The most famous among all is the Brahma Temple, said to be the only temple in the world dedicated to this deity.

Pushkar is famous for its annual Pushkar Cattle Fair, which has over the years become one of the biggest tourist attractions in India. This is usually the quintessential colourful Indian festival which you see in all the Incredible !ndia ads. However, this year was not as joyous for the traders. The global recession combined with the drought hit hard and there were hardly any buyers. The individual stories are sad - with most traders having to leave their cows, camels and horses behind because they can't afford to feed their families, let alone the animals. Yet, the resilience of the people was touching to see - with hope for the future and welcoming to those from the outside.

It was so cold and the stream was so still that ice had begun to form on the banks. It was pretty neat. My inner 6yr old was dying to throw a rock in the stream and ruin the reflection....I resisted- for the good of all the workshop participants, and because I probably would have been thrown into the stream by the group.

The Pyrenees also spelled Pyrenées Spanish: Pirineos; French: Pyrénées; Catalan: Pirineus; Occitan: Pirenèus; Aragonese: Perinés; Basque: Pirinioak are a range of mountains in southwest Europe that form a natural border between France and Spain. They separate the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of continental Europe, and extend for about 430 km. For the most part, the main crest forms a massive divider between France and Spain, with the tiny country of Andorra sandwiched in between. The Col d'Aubisque above is a mountain pass in the Pyrenees 30km south of Tarbes and Pau in the department of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the Aquitaine region of France. The Aubisque is one of those hors catégorie cols that make the legend of the Tour de France.

We were high up in the Pyrenees at the top of the Col d'aubisque even higher at 1,750 m. The weather had been cold, cold enough for snow on the top of the mountains. The white mountain tops are reaching here higher than 2600 meters. The highest peak in the Pyrenees is 3,404 meters high.
