Here is my block for the Quilting for Kids. I don't know why I didn't take a picture of it squared rather than on point.

Title: Radio blackout from X-ray flare (2/25/2014, 00:49 UT)

Description: The X-ray flare (X5.0 2/25/2014, 00:49 UT) ionized the lower layers of the earthâs ionosphere causing increase in absorption of terrestrial radio signals.

Notice the change in signals in the top half of the spectrogram and the radio blackout in the bottom half of the spectrogram.

The radio blackout shown in the spectrogram is greater than 15 minutes long.

Tektronix MDO4104-6 Mixed Domain oscilloscope spectrum analyzer spectrogram is the blue display on the top and in the black bottom display is the latest spectrum trace at 01:00:06 UT.

The spectrogram horizontal axes is from 17.5 MHz to 24 MHz. The top blue display vertical axis is time, oldest time is at the top.

The vertical white lines are radio signals that are constantly being received.

Notice how many of the vertical white lines stopped at the time of the X-ray flare in the middle of the spectrogram and the decrease of overall radio noise (white blueish color).

The faint very thin vertical lines are local radio frequency interference (RFI) which is not affected by the change in the ionosphere.

The white dots are short duration radio signals.

"This is the strongest flare of the year so far and one of the strongest of the current solar cycle."

www.spaceweather.com

Local time Monday 2/24 sunset was 17:49 PST or 2/25 0149 UT.

The X-ray flare happen one hour before sunset here at Camas, WA.

Most likely the radio blackout affected most of the stations to the west while stations to east were not affected as much because the Earth at sunset was shielding the ionosphere to the west of WA state.

WWV at 20 MHz is the red vertical line at just less than four divisions from the left side. WWV in Colorado is southeast of WA state and it is still being received during the radio blackout.

Also, the date in the lower right corner is incorrect, it should be 2/25 and not 2/24.

The time in UT is correct.

According to T-Mobile's website:

With web'n'walk, your internet access is unlimited*, meaning you can:

* Surf the whole internet

* Use it in any location where you have mobile coverage

* Browse as much as you want and never worry about cost

You see that asterisk up there though? That means BEWARE! But there's nothing on the webpage that tells you what it means - SHOCK HORROR!

Looking at the terms and conditions though, we find out that:

"To ensure a high quality of service for all our customers a 1GB (of data both sent and received in the UK) per month fair use policy applies."

Hold on - that's not unlimited! Also:

"We do not permit use of this service to provide modem access for a computer or for peer to peer file sharing, internet phone calls or instant messaging."

Those seem like limits too!

These little red asterisks are, as it turns out, edible. The spines aren't sharp but rather soft like plastic. Bite through that rind to find a glob of sweet, whiteish gelatin, which you can suck on or chew, around an almond-sized nut. This is now my favorite fruit.
