" The swirl of glue-imprint remains after the metal viewpoint memorial plaque at Orrest Head, Windermere, Cumbria ( Lake District) was jemmied and stolen from its slate plinth in 2011. The plaque featured an enlarged engraving of a drawing by A. Wainwright, famous guidebook writer, fell-walker and artist. ( Subsequently replaced by the cliquey Wainwright Society )

The word "missing" came to mind as I considered posting this photo of me and Cristy......for several reasons.

First, our friend Katie was with us but she is missing from this edited photo. Sorry. She was not absent, lost, gone nor misplaced - just missing.

Second, I've been missing both friends since we gathered last year. Sad. In this case, I've felt a yearning, perhaps craving, to see them again.

Fortunately, any feelings of melancholy are overcome by the thought we'll be together again very soon.

Over the past two years, the importance of friends has an amplified presence in my life priorities.

Missing pieces (broken)

In 1989 werd op het Mercatorplein een "Grand Union" tramkruising aangelegd bij de verlegging van de lijnen 7 en 13.

Sinds kort is echter vanuit de Jan Evertsenstraat linksaf de Hoofdweg richting Bos en Lommerplein opdraaien niet meer mogelijk. Er is een stuk van anderhalve meter uit het binnenbeen van de bewuste boog verwijderd. Waarom? Volgens het GVB "omdat de boog nooit gebruikt werd" (....)

De bovenleiding hangt er echter nog wel en de bijbehorende , eveneens "Nooit gebruikte" binnenboog is nog wél functioneel. Deze week bleek dat het ontbrekende stuk rail zorgde voor een extra lange omleiding via Kinkerstraat en Rozengracht: bij de Admiralengracht was de bovenleiding door een vuilniswagen naar beneden gehaald. Had het stuk rail er nog ingezeten was een omleiding mogelijk geweest waarbij alleen de halte Marco Polostraat niet zou worden aangedaan, ipv. de 5 haltes die nu moesten worden overgeslagen- inclusief het Mercatorplein zelf....

After over an hour of digging us out of the snow (I could not drive anywhere - got stuck just off my driveway, had to remove most of the soft snow to be able to drive back onto my own driveway..) decided that looking at green things at Devonian Gardens is the thing I want to be doing. A bit tired with the white stuff.. I'll be feeling my muscles for a few days...

I think I am back! Tuesday, my computer crashed. I had to buy a new one and have spent the last 2 days getting it set up! I think I am almost done with it. A few more things to do today, but won't take me forever to finish! Happy Friday and have a great start to your weekend.

Other than a quick photo session at the river dam 10 days ago, this hike was my last "real" time on the river, and that was 17 days ago. My skin is starting to crawl and I have the shakes. I don't have to work on Friday, so hopefully the weather will be nice and I'll get out here then..........assuming I'm all done Christmas shopping......

Yesterday evening we were watching the latest Japanese music videos - and then it hit: we miss Japan!

I honestly think Japan is the coolest place on earth - from their traditional art forms to modern mango, from okonomiyaki to sushi - Japan always seems to excel at everything it puts its mind to. Anyway, enough reminiscing...

This shot was taken from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government tower (like some of my other ones), as the sun was setting right behind Mt Fuji (can anyone spot it?!). Weekend! I'm off - have a great one everybody!
