Because macro photography is at very short distance, the depth of field of is also very short. If you open the aperture in its maximum (pictured, at f/2.8), you will realize that you can pinpoint at very fine location. The stamens of a stargazer lily is very tiny already, but here you can see that I am still able to have bokeh even on its tip.
Forget about AF points—especially on the 6D where there is only 6. Do it manually. When you do everything manual it is a lot of fun. Obviously a tripod is required. Here the MT-24EX twilight is used on two light stands to give it an even cross-light effect. And as I have learned the hard way, always use a cable release because every bit of vibration will show, just like the telephoto shots. You really have to minimize the vibration. Use mirror locking if necessary though I did not for this one.
The bokeh from the 100 f/2.8 Macro is one of the best I have seen available in the market—and it is not even an L lens. It is one of my favorite primes available on the Canon camp.
