D365/Day 170
24 hour Dexcom review: Wowzers! This thing rocks. I have used the Minimed system for 2.5 years or so and I can say that the Dex blows their system out of the water, full stop.
Two hours after I inserted the sensor last night it beeped at me for the first calibration (which is actually two right in a row) and then out of the gate it gave out readings that were pretty much spot on with my meter (contrast this with the Minimed system which usually takes a full 24 hours to get readings that resemble reality).
Things I love about the system so far:
*Dex's readings have been very close to my meter (see pic above, less than 24 hrs after activation!), unless my bg is falling or rising quickly then there still is that lag, but it seems to be much less (20 pts off instead of the 50+ pts the Minimed system has)
*when you input a calibration number, Dex corrects itself immediately if it is off, no 20 min lag time as before
*early this morning Dex beeped at me for a calibration but I hit the ignore button as I was still sleeping. When I woke up, I expected my readings to be empty (when the Minimed system demands a calibration it just shuts down until you input one). But wait! Dex had KEPT GIVING READINGS even though the time to calibrate had come and gone. Floored! This was my #1 pet peeve w/ the Minimed system since you couldn't even calibrate when your bg was rising or falling. No more.
*I actually like having a separate receiver thingy because I can't check it obsessively. Of course I'm always leaving it in another room so it can't transmit but when I get close again it picks it up right away.
So far, I really like Dex! I'm sure it has quirks too (for example, the graph doesn't have the time on the bottom and I can't figure out how to see past reading numbers other than the dots on the graph) but so far it's a sure improvement over the Minimed system for me.
