Some scenes from Kunming's "Spring Real Estate Exposition and Trade Fair" held in April at the International Convention Center, a massive complex similar to Boston's Bayside Expo Center. New high-rise apartment complexes are rapidly being built all over Kunming and neighboring areas. Most real estate companies feature a theme or gimmick to try to distinguish one complex from another (i.e. French style, British style, outdoor activities, environmentally-friendly, etc.).
I was hired to play sax (with my iPod tracks as accompaniment) at the booth of one of the real estate companies. They set me up with a microphone on a small stage at a busy crossroads. I played 2 or 3 songs per hour, mostly jazz, although the crowd favorite was the theme to "Titanic," as Kenny G is still very popular throughout China. (Check out the video clip to get an idea what it was like to play there).
The rest of the time I was free to wander around and take in the spectacle with the thousands of other attendees.
