Death
115 Pictures in 2015 ... #9. Mythological Creature
Is there any more frightening mythological creature than the Grim Reaper himself??
This is the figure of Death, from the Entrance Hall at Lacock. The Hall was created in 1754–5 for John Ivory Talbot. The architect, Sanderson Miller created a room in the Gothick style, with a large chimney-piece and a barrel ceiling painted with the coats of arms of Talbot’s friends. The niches on the wall were filled with terracotta figures by an Austrian, or South German sculptor, Victor Alexander Sederbach. They were produced at Lacock between May 1755 and January 1756. Curiously, no other work by this sculptor is known.
