Alfa Romeo 155 DTM

This model is based on one of my all-time favorite DTM cars, the #7 Dekra 155 Alfa.

This is the first build using my DTM sedan chassis which has a few qualities that I’ve found useful. It has a one-stud extension between the fender/wheel wells to create more length in the body, and utilizes either or both 1x2 bricks and 2x2 plates with side studs at each end of the chassis to enable mounting of the face and the rear of car so that the studs are facing horizontally. Obviously, I make variations on this based on what the form dictates, but it gives a relatively flexible starting point.

For this chassis, I have vertically staggered the wheel arches so that the rears are one plate lower than the front giving the car a downward rake towards the front which is frequently an aesthetic found on DTM and touring sedans, especially those prepped for track duty.

I had immense trouble creating a bi-level rear wing that looked like the ones run on the Dekra cars. Capturing the ultra thin wing at the right angles proved evasive, and I ended up using the wing design from the #24 and #28 black cars seen in the later years of Alfa’s DTM run with the 155.

One detail I was particularly happy about was capturing/hinting at the Alfa logo nose shield using two cheese wedges clutched-in behind the bumper.

I used 1/32 scale aftermarket waterslip decals for the race livery, as well as some leftover Lego red stickers to create the A, B and C pillars as well as the small angled detail found at the inboard base of the tail lights.

Custom white letters round out the wheel treatment to capture that DTM look. I achieved a deeper dish look with the wheels by cutting away the center ridge in the SC tires that forces the tire to align with the central gutter of the wheel, therefore allowing you to offset the tire.
