High water at the Hogsback

I took the 6x12 to Letchworth last Friday with three frames left on the roll. I had three specific locations in mind, all places that I had photographed many times but not with this camera. I used a standard tripod instead of the usual stubby. This is the first of the three.

I did take a photograph here with the previous roll of film. I was trying out a different tripod which proved not to be up to the task of holding the camera steady while I tried to get a half-second exposure.

This was a bright, sunny afternoon; exposing at 800 was pushing the limit. I did more work than usual in the Gimp to bring out the contrast in a rather dark negative. Black and white negatives have an incredible grayscale range!

Heavy rain combined with the snowmelt from a stretch of warm weather meant the Genesee River was running full; the Hogsback floodplain was well inundated.
