Bonus Shot

While hanging around Olean, NY awaiting the departure of a Western New York and Pennsylvania turn to East Salamanca, I overheard the Buffalo & Pittsburgh (B&P) dispatcher giving a warrant to something "301" from Machias to Windfall. I was familiar with Machias as a WNYP connection, but Windfall was new to me. Nonetheless, I hightailed it over to the B&P and 30 minutes later, was parked at former Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh (BR&P) "AD" Tower at Ashford to see what I could see.

Long waits always have me second-guessing myself when trying to catch up to a train in unfamiliar territory, but I needn't have worried. After about 30 minutes on site, I was pleasantly surprised when the familiar rumble of an approaching train turned into this, led by former Wellsboro & Corning (ex-QNSL) SD40-2 #301, and moving at "leisurely speed." As it turns out, Windfall is at East Salamanca, and after an updated warrant, this train from Buffalo would later meet its northbound counterpart at Bradford, PA.

Incidentally, AD Tower controlled the junction of the BR&P mainlines to Buffalo and Rochester, making it one of the more definitive interlockings on the system.
