Visible still, however, is the well-known 'Feldherrenhalle' (1844) built to honour the Bavarian Army's military successes. It was designed by Friedrich von Gärtner, one of Munich's most famous architects (along with Leo von Klenze) who is responsible for many of the classical buildings in Munich's Altstadt (and who is also the architect of what is today the Parliament Building of Greece)....The Feldherrenhalle was also witness to an important moment in history: it was the place were followers of Adolf Hitler (who himself was also present) ultimately clashed with the Bavarian State Police / Military on November 9th 1923 when they tried to seize power (leading to deadly casualties on both sides) in Munich. As a result of this attempted Coup d'Etat (known as the 'Beer Hall Putsch'), Hitler and many of his followers were sent to prison for a while...
