Family Archaeology Day 2022

Saturday May 7, 2022 10:00am to 3:00pm Rock Creek Regional Park
Come learn about Montgomery Parks Archaeology!
Get a glimpse into the world of an archaeologist.

FREE family-friendly day filled with hands-on activities, presentations, and live music! Do a simulated archaeological dig. Identify seeds and mend ceramics. Make clay marbles and a clay pot, and try tinsmithing and weaving.

Play tug of war and join a sack race. Throw a spear with an atlatl. Construct a wikiup. See the Civil War doctor or visit with a Union soldier. Discover ways Indigenous people lived in the pre-colonial era. Check out discoveries in the archaeological displays.

O’Boy Pizza and Ice Cream will be on site with food available for purchase.

Needwood Mansion House Tours – 11 am, 1:30 pm
Ask the Governor about Maryland’s role in the War of the Rebellion – 12 pm
Tour the Archaeology Lab – 12:30
“Montgomery County During Reconstruction” Presentation – 2:15 pm

The Refined Earthenware String Band – 12:30 – 2:30 pm
