The serval (Leptailurus serval) is a wild cat native to Africa.
The serval is a solitary carnivore and active both by day and at night. It preys on rodents, particularly vlei rats, small birds, frogs, insects, and reptiles, using its sense of hearing to locate prey.
Servals have long, powerful legs that are important for jumping. They have been known to jump as high as 3.6 m (12 ft) to catch birds in mid-air!
Their longest legs and tail can grow up to 30cm. It can be easier to move and run to prey or save themselves from predators such as leopards.
Having hidden her three very cute kittens, Mamma Serval went hunting for her kittens. Captured during a photography safari on a late evening game drive in Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya.
