Pseudomalus auratus (female)

Found in Ipswich, Suffolk visiting wild flowers on the Spring Road allotments (TM176447) on 16 June 2016, this little wasp (about 3 mm long) has been identified as a female Pseudomalus auratus by Alexander Berg, an expert on cuckoo wasps. This species preys on cabronid wasps that nest in cavities and prey on aphids. The female cuckoo wasps lay their eggs in the aphids some of which are subsequently captured by the cabronid wasps. The cabronids then carry the aphids to their nests where the cuckoo larvae eat the aphids and the cabronid larvae.
