The defender

The defender - Surprisingly high water levels on Loch Awe provided the unusual conditions of finding this rarely submerged tree on the shoreline and a chance opportunity of framing the magnificent ruins of Kilchurn Castle.

Captured on a visit towards the end of last year, conditions were a little different to the usual spectacular dawn light that I’d previously grown so accustomed to. The moody and dreich dawn did not disappoint and the delicate subtle light more than made up for the lack of intense colours.

The still loch instilled a real sense of serene calm with the atmospheric conditions, brooding Scottish weather with frequent downpours never far away. Against the odds, the surprisingly calm conditions that I crave so much were the icing on the cake and together with the submerged tree, presented the perfect scene to me.
