Elakala No. 1, with Swirl
Elakala Falls #1 on Shays Run, Blackwater Falls State Park, Tucker County, West Virginia.
This is another shot from Tuesday morning of this week, taken a bit closer to the falls than the preceding shot; this perspective shows not only the base of the falls, but also the two pools not visible in the more distant shot. The swirl in the lower pool inevitably makes me think of my friend and waterfall-shooting mentor, Randall Sanger. My interest in waterfalls is of long standing, but this is a different sort of waterfall photography for me; I'm eager to do more. In addition to placing us in the midst of such beautiful scenery, our stay at Blackwater Falls State Park this week (Sunday evening-Tuesday morning) also gave us the opportunity to visit with Randy and Melissa (and briefly with their great dog, Rocky, as well); Randy is resident photographer at the nearby Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge this month.
