Cork Kent

Friday, 20 June 2014

Early morning at Cork Kent railway station, viewed from Grattan Hill: thunderbird loco GM 222 is stabled in the siding next to platform 1; platform 1 contains ICR #48 (22 048) for the 0615 Midleton, while standing in front is a 4 piece 2600 with 2601/02 leading for the 0545 Midleton; platform 2 contains another 4 piece 2600 class railcar set for the 0530 Cobh, 2610/13 leading; platform 3 contains yet another 4 piece 2600 for the 0630 Cobh; GM 229 is at platform 4 with the 0600 InterCity service to Dublin Heuston.

Due to the Irish Open being played at Fota, Íarnród Éireann Irish Rail increased the capacity of all the East Cork rail services from the normal 2 piece 2600 class. For the four days (19 - 22 June), a half hourly service will operate on the Cobh Road with the ICR operating on the Midleton Line. The third 4 piece 2600 class will operate as required.
