Shay's Run Cleanup
As many of you know, Hurricane Sandy tore through the Potomac Highlands area as a blizzard and downed many trees - several of them on a favorite stream in Blackwater Falls State Park. This is the second waterfall on Shay's Run and there were a few trees in and around the splash pool, and one tree was on the waterfall.
I'm excited to report that much work was done on Saturday to cleanup Shay's Run! Many thanks to Rob Gilligan (park superintendent) and Matt Baker (asst. park superintendent) for supporting the volunteer effort to get the cleanup rolling - please send them a note of gratitude if you're one of the many folks that enjoy photographing Shay's Run.
Matt and a few of the park employees along with 5 volunteers worked through snow, sleet and light rain to get as much done as we could. There's still a little bit more left to do at #2, but we need lower water levels to remove a submerged tree. However, it's awesome that Elakala #2 is now worthy of photographing again - I sure have missed shooting here! Thanks again to the park folks, and to Dave Miller and Jeff Fields for coordinating the cleanup effort w/ the park.
