Andrewsarchus but stiil searching - Prehisto Dino Parc (Lacave/FR)
This animal still presented by science based on only the upper side of the scull which was found in 1923 by Roy Chapman Andrews in the Irdin Mahna Formation in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia during the Central Asian Expeditions. The skull is 83.4 centimeters long and 56 centimeters wide, making it larger than that of any other known land-grabbing mammal.

Andrewsarchus - is a genus of extinct mammals that belonged to the even-toed ungulates (Artiodactyla). Andrewsarchus was previously classified as a mesonychian, but recent research has determined that this animal was a member of the even-toed ungulates, in the clade Cetancodontamorpha. As a result, Andrewsarchus is probably more closely related to entelodonts, hippos and whales. The old view of Andrewsarchus as a wolf-like predator (as a member of the Triisodontidae) is thus outdated.
However, the classification of Andrewsarchus remains a point of contention as only the upper skull of the animal is known. Andrewsarchus lived from about 45 to 36 million years during the Eocene in eastern Asia..

Lacave: Prehisto Dino Parc - Prehistoric life
Near the small village of Lacave the "Prehisto Dino Parc" is a very nice walk in the heart of the forest. Along a long path with sounds and animated animals and organised with a fun and educational signage, visitors go to meet dinosaurs and discover the daily life of the first humans. The 150 life size representations will be a total immersion in the Jurassic and prehistoric era.
