Jeff Cohen is a multi-award winning songwriter/producer whose songs have been featured on over 20 million albums and over 10 million video games. Jeff is also known as Pancho’s Lament, which he founded originally to play concerts on his birthday.
In late 1999/early 2000 he released a collection of songs which became known as the self-titled “Pancho’s Lament” CD. The second Pancho’s Lament album “Leaving Town Alive” was released in early 2003. Pancho’s Lament did a limited unreleased pressing of a third CD called “Three Sides to Every Story” in 2008. This fall Pancho’s Lament plans to release their 4th album yet to be titled. Jeff also co-wrote and produced an album with his good friend Chris Barron of the Spin Doctors called “Pancho and the Kid” which was released in 2007.
As a songwriter, Jeff wrote the top 5 hit “Crazy For This Girl” for Evan and Jaron and the top 15 country hit “Holy Water” for Big and Rich which also shot to # 1 on the CMT and GAC video charts. He achieved BMI awards for both songs. Last year he had 4 songs recorded by Laura Bell Bundy on her debut album including the hit single “Giddy On Up” also a #1 video on CMT and GAC.
Currently a song Jeff wrote, “Postcard from Paris” was released by The Band Perry. The song went to #5 on the Billboard Country charts. Other artists who have recorded his songs include Sugarland, The Band Perry, Josh Groban, Macy Gray, Nick Lachey, Mark Broussard, Bethany Joy Galeotti (star of One Tree Hill – jeff also produced her debut EP), Spin Doctors, Mandy Moore, Ilse DeLange (hit single “Beautiful Distraction”), Richie McDonald of Lonestar (title track of Dove nominated album “I Turn To You”), Sandi Patty, Ronan Tynan, Teitur, Three Graces, Sasha and Shawna, Amie Miriello , Toby Lightman, Chelsea Lee, Ben’s Brother (award winning UK band), the multi-platinum Spanish artist Luz Casal, multi-platinum Australian artist Christine Anu, multi-platinum German artist Harmut Engler, platinum Norwegian artist Torstein Sodal to name a few. In the past year jeff had also written with such artists as Delta Goodrem, Sara Evans, Tiffany Thornton (star of Disney shows “Sonny With A Chance” and “so random”), and Matthew Morrison of Glee.
Jeff’s first break arrived when the Pancho’s Lament song “Truth About Romeo” became the theme for the WB Network show “Jack and Jill”. Luckily, the good people involved with the show went on to use many Pancho’s Lament songs which led to many more being featured on shows such as “Dawson’s Creek”, “Party of Five”, “One Tree Hill”, “Desperate Housewives”, “Ed”, “Roswell”, “Army Wives”, “Reba”, “Smallville”, “The Simpson’s”, “Saturday Night Live”, “Who Wants To Marry My Dad”, “Once and Again” and others. In 2005 Pancho’s Lament wrote and performed the theme for “I Married a Princess” on Lifetime Network. Also, Macy Gray’s version of “Boom Boom” was the promo/commercial for Desperate Housewives 3rd season. Most recently Jeff penned the theme song for the new TVLAND show “The Exes.” The show stars Donald Faison (Scrubs), Kristen Johnson (3rd Rock From The Sun), and Wayne Knight (Seinfeld).
He has also been fortunate to have his songs appear in major and independent films such as “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”, “Stuart Little 2″, “My Super Ex-Girlfriend”, “Aquamarine”, “Grandma’s Boy”, “Unconditional Love”, “See No Evil” and “Two Ninas”.
Jeff has shared stages and opened for artists such as Bob Dylan, Ani DiFranco, Kara DioGuardi, Lamont Dozier, Hugh Prestwood, Jamey Johnson, Lisa Loeb, Jeffrey Steele, Sacha Skarbek, John Oates (of Hall & Oates), Marti Fredricksen, Jaron, Hugh Prestwood, Brad Arnold of Three Doors Down, Jon Popper of Blues Traveller, Chris Barron of the Spin Doctors to name a few.
