Drosera Binata

Day 155 of 365

"Drosera Binata"

Today's image is brought to you by the good folks at Worlds Rare Plants in Half Moon Bay. The shop is a Mecca for carnivorous plants, and I always make a point of dropping in when I'm in the neighborhood. The binata is a native of New Zealand and Australia, and I believe is one of the sexier drosera around. As for the lighting, you can't go wrong with a smaller source with a specimen like this. For those not familiar with sundews, the little droplets of dew at the end of the follicles are sweet......and sticky. When an unsuspecting insect lands on the plant, it gets caught in the sticky substance, the leaves slowly wrap around the prey, and the bug is no more. With that said, the smaller light source does a great job bringing out those tiny nectar droplets. I shot against a black background, though white would have worked as well because the plant and the light were a decent distance from the background. Anywho, thanks for sticking around!!
