Ginny - stranger 232/300

The annual Turkey Trot held in my home village draws competitors from all over the country, up to 1,000 of them. This provides me with an ideal opportunity to find some people for my stranger project.

Ginny had just come out of the building in which the runners have to register along with a friend, both of whom were wearing Christmas headgear. I approached them and introduced the project to them and they both agreed to be photographed for it – you can see Ginny’s friend, Marijke, as my next stranger.

A nearby blue gate seemed like a perfect background as it was in the shade meaning I didn’t have to worry about the bright sunlight casting unflattering shadows. Unfortunately, I got some distracting highlights behind Ginny, but from whatever angle I tried I couldn’t exclude them from the shot. Ginny was easy to photograph and couldn’t stop smiling at me throughout the entire shoot, which resulted in a very happy looking portrait.

Ginny has been running since 1999 and belongs to the 4Life Tri club. She competes in events countrywide but prefers half-marathons to marathons. Ginny told me she also likes taking part in triathlons and had recently done a half Iron Man event. You can find out more about Ginny’s club here: www.britishtriathlon.org/clubs/4life-tri_1193

Ginny is the mother of two teenage sons and works at Nottingham University. She wouldn’t be able to live without her husband. Her first star crush had been on actor Robert Downey Jr. but decided to ‘dump’ him as he was to small for her! If Ginny could change one thing in the world it would be to remove all the plastic is our oceans.

Thank-you Ginny, for being great fun to photograph and I hope your run went well. I also hope you like your portrait.

This picture is #232 in the 100 Strangers project, yes, I’ve decided to do a third round. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page
