Piko Cal-P Withcomb #1313

thats a model of the 65to Withcomb as used by the US Army in Europe and elsewhere. It was initially released in the European version, with buffers. Waited for the US version hoping for an undecorated version ( then found any road name could be ordered as long as it was Maryland Midland) and was shocked to find that it was a hastily modified Euro version, even with the non functional and useless short coupling mechanism hidden underneath! This made it impossible to install scale head couplers as only the oversize Kadee "Euro" couplers would fit.

Ripped out this crap and installed plain Kadee boxes, and #58 couplers. Stripped the paint, and checked how to change the cab to full size, instead of the slant side Army cab intended for minimum clearance situations. Thus ´I created a non-such, as AFAIK there were no 65to Whitcombs with slanted hoods and rectangular cab.

Found that by using two Athearn SW cabs it was possible to realize a suitable high cab.

Painted her in dark red, Rock Island style, but lettered her for my private road.

As its a freelance modification anyway, I added eight straight stacks to indicate that she has been repowered.

Then I found that its beyond my knowledge to adjust the overcomplicated sound system... manual tells me, I have to purchase a Piko programming device. Surely wont do, as I never will buy another Piko locomotive. Headlight settings arent important on this thing as the lights are so weak they are hardly noticeable.

Numbered her Double Thirteen to express my feelings for her.
