"I Want to Crawl Back into My Hole"

I was so happy to see this Burrowing Owl out of his nest hole. He sat on this pole for as long as needed to get this picture, before he went back to digging/expanding his tunnel.

 

There were at least four owls at this location on Cape Coral, Florida, excavating their tunnels.

 

I am "cheating" and calling this Life Bird #250. In the "Stokes Field Guide to the Birds of North America", the Western and Florida Burrowing Owls are designated as "sub-species" of Athene cunicularia. I have seen both subspecies and they appear similar but with distinct differences (and the populations are separated by 2000 miles). (see picture of western subspecies in first comment below)
