Peony 'Mary Elizabeth' 23W23 Lactiflora N4- (Hollingsworth, 2004) (3-JAP-PK) Lactiflora Peony, Mature plant size: 34in., medium height, Bright, medium pink guard petals surround a center of light yellow staminodes, midseason bloomer, USDA Hardiness Zone 3-8, Michigan Bloom Month 5-6, In Garden Bed N4 for 25 MONTHS (Wild). Planted in 2021.

 

American Peony Society: Lactiflora Group; Mid-late to Late; Japanese form, guard petals strongly cupped, of brilliant red-pink hue, surround the clear yellow, incurved staminodes center ball. Numerous sidebuds extend flowering, color remains attractive to petal fall, petals color does not fade purplish. Flower placement is close to the dark green, vigorous bush; medium height, 34 inches, upright spreading in profile. Pedigree lost; color evidence suggests a hybrid backcrossed to a Lactiflora. First bloomed before 1994. Carpels yellow-white; stigmas same color as guard petals. Seeds easily to compatible pollens. Number 2140. Named for a family friend.

 

Wild: Peony Mary Elizabeth - LM J Pink MH. Bright, medium pink guard petals surround a center of light yellow staminodes. Pink color remains attractive to petal fall. This peony will really bring a shot of color to the garden landscape. Very vigorous grower with lots of bloom. 3-5 eye, bareroot division. Zones 3-7.
