Peony 'The Mackinac Grand' 23W21 xPeony N3

Peony 'The Mackinac Grand' 23W21 xPeony N3- (David Reath, 1992) (2-SD-RD) xPeony Peony, Mature plant size: 40in., RED, Tall, semi-double, orange red guard petals, ruffled, yellow stamens, red-tipped carpels, fragrant, early bloomer , USDA Hardiness Zone 3-6, Michigan Bloom Week ISO WW21, In Garden Bed N3 for 8.6 YEARS (Brooks). Planted in 2014.

American Peony Society: first year bloomed 1981. Parentage, Reath F-3 (Burma Ruby x Moonrise) x Reath E-78. Ruffled brilliant orange red hybrid with three or four rows of guard petals, all ruffled. Very fertile as a pod and pollen parent. Fragrant.

American Peony Society Gold Medal Selection for 2013 and Peony of the Year for 2014. Looks very red to me, not orange red. Entry in Burkhardt's peony database is mis-spelled. I assume that the peony is named after the famous Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, MI.

2021, not as good looking as previous years. Fewer flowers. Back to normal in 2022.
