American Peony Society: CAVATINA (Saunders, 1935) - Single - Pink. Hybrid. Deep bright rose, 7" across, with a great golden heart. Albiflora x officinalis. Lists in Bulletins 91 and 129. CAVATINA(1935) (P) - Single tawny blush.
Peony 'Cavatina' (Saunders, 1935) is a Albiflora x officinalis hydrid single: 7" deep rose single, dark green rounded foliage, 30” tall. Bred by A.P. Saunders (1869-1953), a chemistry professor at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY. He is famous for his inter species crosses and introduced around 300 hybrid peonies with the median distribution around 1941. The foliage stands at about 28 inches, while most of the flowers are at 30 inches.
Early bloomer, close to a very early bloomer. In 2021, it bloomed shortly after Athena, Early Scout and Roselette. Adelman lists it as a very early bloomer. Original name appears to be FELICITY.
