Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Willamette Elegance' (John Mitsch Nursery, OR 1980s) 2020 photo - Common Name: Large Japanese Hinoki Cypress, Size at 10 years: 10x7ft., Green needles, USDA Hardiness Zone 5, In Garden Bed U2 for 2.5 YEARS (Stanl). Planted in 2017.

 

ACS: Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Willamette Elegance' is a strong growing upright tree form of Hinoki cypress with sculpted horizontal branching holding rich green foliage. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 10 feet (3 m) tall and 6 feet (2 m) wide, an annual growth rate of 12 inches (30 cm) or more.

 

This cultivar originated as a seedling selection made in the late 1980s by John Mitsch Nursery, Aurora, Oregon and named for a namesake scenic river in Oregon.

 

A green upright form of Japanese Hinoki. Rich green leaves on a strong growing tree. Horizantal branches almost flow over the one below it. Amature specimen will measure 10 feet tall and 6 feet wide in 10 years. Annual growth rate of ~12 inches. Winter damage in 2018-19.
