Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Gold Spangle' (Koster Brothers Nursery, Netherlands 1900s) 2020 photo - Common Name: Intermediate Sawara False Cypress, Size at 10 years: 11x13ft., golden yellow foliage, USDA Hardiness Zone 4, In Garden Bed D0,04 L1 for 2.3 YEARS (Lowes). Planted in 2017.

 

American Conifer Society: Fast growing, upright conical selection of Sawara cypress with bright gold foliage that Leaf color is variable. Periodic shearing maintains tidiness. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 7x4 feet. Annual growth rate 8 inches or more.

 

This cultivar is a branch sport found in the early 1900s on a specimen of Ch. pisifera ‘Filifera Aurea’ at Koster Brothers Nursery, Boskoop, Netherlands. Later introduced by A. Mesman Nursery, also of Boskoop. Planted in 2017.
