Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Gold Spangle' (Netherlands, 1900s) 2019 photo - Common Name: Intermediate Sawara False Cypress, Size at 10 years: 7x4ft., golden yellow foliage, USDA Hardiness Zone 4, In Garden Bed HR-L for 33.8 YEARS (HLG). Planted in 1986.

 

ACS: Fast growing, upright conical selection of Sawara cypress with bright gold foliage that Leaf color is variable. Periodic shearing maintains tidiness. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 7x4 feet. Annual growth rate 8 inches or more.

 

This cultivar is a branch sport found in the early 1900s on a specimen of Ch. pisifera ‘Filifera Aurea’ at Koster Brothers Nursery, Boskoop, Netherlands. Later introduced by A. Mesman Nursery, also of Boskoop. Planted in 2017.
