Orginally thought to be a cross between the Monterey cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) and Alaskan cedar (Chamaecyparis nootkatensis). Research into the genetics of cypress suggests that Monterey cypress is closely related to a rare Asian species and much more genetically distinct from Nootka cypress. Fast grower @3 feet/year. From Britain and renamed for marketing purposes. Introduced by Monrovia in 1992.
