Acer palmatum 'Sango-kaku', 2018 photo

"Acer palmatum 'Sango-kaku', 2018 photo, Common Name: Coral Bark Japanese Maple, Size: 20x20ft., Yellow Green turning yellow green in fall, USDA Hardiness Zone 5, Michigan Bloom Month 5, In Garden Bed U3 for 1.1 YEARS (Lowe). Planted in 2017.

Upright, slow-growing, vase-shaped form. Commonly called coral bark maple because of its sometimes distinctive pink bark. Pink coloration is less pronounced in summer. Best pink coloration occurs on young twigs and branches. Leaves are yellow-green with reddish margins in spring, mature to light green in summer and turn yellow-gold in fall. Small reddish-purple flowers in spring. Flowers are followed by samaras that ripen in late summer to fall. Cultivar name means coral tower suggesting it resembles coral rising upward from a reef.
