After the Vietnam War the government encouraged the defense industry to convert their military expertise into civilian use. Unfortunately, these vehicles turned out to be boondoggles. I guess military aviation expertise does not translate into knowing how to build rail vehicles. These vehicles were withdrawn from service after only about 15 years of service around 1995- versus decades of service for the previous PCC streetcars. The rail vehicle on the left is one of many old streetcars that San Francisco bought from Milan a few years ago for the F line. #sfmuni #streetcars #fline #marketstrailway #lrv #marketstreetrailway
