Cameron Beach MUNI yard. On the right are two of the retired Boeing Vertol light rail vehicles. After the Vietnam War the government encouraged the defense industry to convert their military expertise into civilian use. Unfortunately, these vehicles turned out to be boondoggles. I guess military aviation expertise does not translate into knowing how to build rail vehicles. These vehicles were withdrawn from service after only about 15 years of service around 1995- versus decades of service for the previous PCC streetcars. The rail vehicle on the left is one of many old streetcars that San Francisco bought from Milan a few years ago for the F line. #sfmuni #streetcars #fline #marketstrailway #lrv #marketstreetrailway
