The 599XX is an extreme non-homologated sports Berlinetta based on the 599 GTB Fiorano road car. First announced at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, followed by a very limited batch of cars, to be maintained at Ferrari and driven only at Ferrari track days, the car is neither road or competition homologated. the car incorpoated the most advanced technologies, with a number of brand new technologies.

Clients are considered part of the research and in 2011 some of the developement saw its way into the replacement 599XX Evoluzione. The new car has an improved aerodynamic package with a modified front splitter and a new diffuser made from a trademarked pourous material know as Actiflow air system, two fans in the boot suck air through this difusser to increase downforce and reduce drag. Air is then channelled out through two grilles, where the rear lights are usually fixed in the road car, while winglets have been added to the rear buttresses again increasing downforce with an F1 inspired slot gap created as a breather to stabilise air flow.

Additionally the car runs on specially adapted Pirelli tyres. There is a 35kg weight reduction over the original 599XX including a 3kg saving on the steering wheel, new headlamps with integrated air intakes (minus 3kg), and side exhausts (minus 18kg). The new exhaust system also leads to a power increase of 20bhp taking output to 750bhp.

One of Ferrari's considerations in not making the car, means that new technology can be introduced and tested, giving engineers a free reign to redesign and redevelope technology.
