Huge Facelift
Trailing out of the spring switch at the West end of Munger is a set of ComEd coal empties after just meeting a loaded train. Leading the charge Westward is GP-9 #1700, which was rebuilt from ex-IC GP-9 #9242, which was voted the All-American Diesel by Trains magazine many moons ago. For those who recall seeing this unit after outshopping and before being repainted, it was pretty easy to see where all of the shell parts came from. The long hood was kept from the #9242, but the cab and nose with the trademark frog-eye headlight were borrowed from a cannabalized Paducah Geep. Following the #1700 are three ex-Milwaukee renegade GP20's, all of which Lampy presumably would have run at one point or another.......
