It all comes to an end
While certainly not surprising, it's still a shame that one of the last 20 cylinder SD45's will likely meet the torch soon. Stored LUBO since late 2021, the #346 was the 3rd of the final 3 SD45's to be reactivated for one final go around. The #355 was the first in early 2017, followed by the #382. After a few HPH trips the #382 went back into storage, never to run again. The #346 was then pulled from the deadline and given new life. It proved versatile, running in everything from helper to switch service. It really found its home on the LAUBOZ however, often paired up with the #355, ensuring it was always close to a maintenance base when issues cropped up. After electrical issues sidelined the old girl in 2021, she's been in Livingston ever since, suffering the same fate as the #382; slowly donating parts to keep the #355 running. Now pictures indicate the torch will come soon, and I'm glad I was able to document the last days of the 20 cylinder monsters in Montana.
