Minecraft Quilt

This is the foolish pursuit of a fantastic b-day present for my almost-10-year-old son, who (like so many kiddos) has a mildly unhealthy obsession with Minecraft.

It was difficult to get him to identify a favorite scene or location on which to base the quilt, but once I saw the "mooshrooms," a curious mushroom-patterned breed of cow, I had all the color contrast and cuteness I needed to fall in love with this project.

This is about a 6-week project, with a pieced top of Kona cotton, and a backing of recycled men's shirts (to hopefully extend the usable life of the quilt after he is over Minecraft -- which may be never, judging from the 20-somethings who play).
