Spotted Nightjar (Eurostopodus argus)

A few months ago, I at the top of the Kings Canyon rim walk photographing the abundant Painted Finches that were around at the time. I definitely wasn’t expecting this encounter! I was sitting low, waiting for the finches to land on the selected branch, when to my surprise, this nightjar swooped down over the rocky outcrop and landed right in front on me! Completely stunned, i manoeuvred in a way where I was able to photograph him without too many distracting elements. Unfortunately he wasn’t perched in the prettiest of places, but I think the species makes up for it! Instead of trying to edit the heck out of it, I decided to roll with a more earthy, moody edit.
