What Is It? #3

The first two in this series have been among my most well-regarded photos. I recently came across an old 10X8 print* of a companion shot from the same occasion, 50 years and 1 month ago.

The main purpose of the series was to photograph my then sister-in-law, much loved by her whole family, on a visit to her home town of Melbourne, on a rare holiday down from her farm in northern NSW. For this shot, I must have shifted focus onto her red-headed and blond sons. The other two images can be reached from here

What Is It? #1

and here:

What Is It? #2.

This shot was taken on a now demolished public shelter on the end of Gem Pier in Williamstown, Melbourne. The pier got its name from the paddle steamer Gem that ran a ferry service from Williamstown to Port Melbourne from 1846 to 1886.

Shot with Petri FT EE (beautiful F1.8 55mm lens), Kodak Plus X

* My original upload was only an iPhone shot of the print. I have since replaced it with superior results from a cheap scanner after locating the negative. Since the original is what got the image Explored, I have made a private copy of that with a link here for anyone interested in a comparison...
