rp @moemotivate: this work is about dismantling systems of oppression.
And when we call out white supremacy & demand for things to change we’re calling out a system of oppression that oppresses Black folks while benefiting white folks. Though it’s important to note that white supremacy hurts white folks too—but that’s another conversation, (hint: perfectionism is white supremacy by another name).
The way the white collective has responded to anti-racism work has been incredibly frustrating & discouraging.
And when misinterpret this work to mean we’re anti-white people, then you’re derailing the conversation and centering white feelings over Black lives.
Anti-racism is not about white folks feeling ashamed of being white or about hating white folks—this is not what this work is about at all.
It’s instead about the pursuit of Black liberation so we can all live freely in our humanity.
It’s about white folks acknowledging and accepting the responsibility that comes with being white in a white supremacist society that positions you at the top of a racial hierarchy.
This work is about redistributing resources & power so that it’s shared equitably.
When folks water down this work as being an attack against white folks you derail the conversation and miss the point all together.
White folks feelings have consistently gotten in the way of this work and it couldn’t be even more evident right now.
And another thing that gets in the way is white fear.
Y’all have a lot of fears around this work and just like your feelings, it’s time y’all recognize and deal with white fear. Cmon now! Get it right!
