We saw this big guy sunning himself while we explored the ruins of the old mining area of Ludwig, Nevada last weekend. Great Basin Collared Lizards are members of the large family Iguanidae and the subfamily Crotaphytinae. They are found in rocky desert terrain in the Great Basin of Nevada & the Sonoran desert of Arizona. They are one of the few lizards which are able to run on their two hind legs only. This is known as bipedal locomotion.
