McQuarrie Farm, Isaac McQuarrie ca. 1930
In recognition of Archives Awareness Week (#2021AAW), the Archives is showcasing items from our family collections throughout historic Vaughan (modern day communities of Maple, Thornhill, Concord, Kleinburg and Woodbridge). One of the earliest families to settle in Vaughan township was that of Lachlan McQuarrie, who moved to Maple in 1827. Settling on Lot 18, Concession 3 (present day southeast of Major Mackenzie and Keele), the family eventually purchased additional farmland north of Major Mackenzie Drive (including Lot 23, 32 and 33 of Concession 3). Their descendants, such as Isaac McQuarrie (pictured above), farmed there until 1956. Learn more about #Vaughan Archives at vaughan.ca/archives.
