Rutherford family fonds
The City of #Vaughan Archives is home to over 200 personal and family collections ranging in size, content and scope. Featured above is a small sampling of items received from a recent donation to the Rutherford Family fonds, a family with deep roots in the Vaughan Community. Settling on lot 15, concession 6 (southwest corner of Rutherford and Weston roads), the Rutherfords arrived in Vellore during the 1920s and quickly began to settle the land. As a progressive family, the Rutherfords captured much of their family history in various formats. For instance, the construction of the family’s barn as a community bee is well documented in archival footage, being one of the earliest videos stored in the archives. Similarly, materials regarding Albert H. Rutherford, the former Vaughan Reeve, Councillor and namesake of Rutherford Road, are equally well detailed and documented within this collection.
