Stranger #65 - Koen

What a breath of fresh air meeting Koen!

I spotted him near the station en route to Newcastle cathedral - his bright orange scarf catching my eye - and brightening up a very grey day.

'He must be a cheery sort of guy,' I thought. I wasn't disappointed!

Koen had arrived in Newcastle that day on a ferry from the Netherlands. The sea had been particularly choppy, and he'd had an awful journey. He explained how he loved to visit places and had recently been to Hong Kong. This was his first time in Newcastle.

We chatted for a while and laughed a lot. Koen is a very spiritual man, but there was a mischievous twinkle in his eye too. Such an enjoyable encounter.

I took a few portraits, but Koen wanted to show off his snazzy chair so I've used this pic of him. I nearly fell into a bin when I moved backwards to take the shot and this caused much hilarity.

Thank you Koen - my day was made much better thanks to the 15 mins that we met. I hope you enjoyed Newcastle and have many more safe and happy journeys
