Should I drink Juice or Smoothies?

With labels removed, the plastic bottles on the right are the three most popular green juices sold in supermarkets. On the left is an equal amount water mixed with a spoonful of whole food Mighty Greens from wheatgrass.com.

The popularity of #smoothies indicates a new understanding that #wholefoods are better than juices. Whole food fruits and vegetables are #prebiotic because they still contain fiber. Without the #fiber, #vegetable or #fruit #juices do not support #probiotic bacteria. In fact, too much #juice without #wholefood fiber can interfere with other aspects of gut #ecology as well.

Earlier this month, Dr. Eric Martens, Professor of #Microbiology and #Immunology at the University of Michigan presented research showing that without adequate fiber in food, organisms in the gut eat away at the protective mucosal layer of the gut wall.

When people start using #PinesWheatGrass or #MightyGreens, they often report an improvement in their bowel function. That is not surprising because digestive tracts of all primates, including humans, are designed for a #diet rich in green whole food #roughage.

The green juice products (without fiber) in the picture are from companies primarily owned by the two major soda pop producers. These green juices are labeled organic but are produced by multi-national corporations whose main products are #GMO high fructose corn syrup (#HFCS) mixed with soda water and mostly artificial flavors..

Pines has been a leader in the organic foods movement for 40 years. We are not a multi-national beverage conglomerate with an "organic sideline." All our farms and products are 100% certified organic We introduced the first whole food #greensuperfood to the natural food marketplace in 1976. We grow all our own certified #organic #kosher #nongmo #wheatgrass, #alfalfa and other #greennsuperfoods. Our nearest field is just across the road from where we bottle and ship our products.

All Pines' products are packaged in amber glass bottles with special metal caps that allow us to remove the oxygen. Without oxygen, #greenfoods do not lose #nutrition like those in plastic tubs. The tight-fitting caps allow a tight seal between uses.
